I came to the conclusion many years ago that one of the main events and biggest attractions of capitalism is the Holiday shopping season. Is there any tradition more based on greed and materialism than that of Black Friday? I know, I know, the Holidays are supposed to commemorate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Like many of you, I too celebrate His birth each year.

For the rest of the world, what thrives in its place are hordes of consumers mobbing stores for frivolous deals on ridiculously overpriced “goods” like flat screen TVs, video gaming consoles, the latest gadget from Apple or Android, and boatloads of useless trinkets of dubious quality made in China and other countries you may have never heard of. If it’s clothing you’re shopping for, it’s all made by Chinese, Southeast Asian or Central American children in dangerous sweatshops.

The top 1% of America’s wealthy have exported our jobs to the third world for pennies on the dollar, and they’re laughing at the rest of us as more and more formerly middle class Americans wind up homeless…
