The Sower and the Seed, and Your True Extended Family

(Luke chapter 8, verses 1–21, part 1 of 3)

Good day, everyone! As we continue our in-depth study and analysis of the writings of the apostle Luke in their order of appearance in the Bible, we’ll be starting on chapter 8 of Luke’s gospel. Since this is a fairly lengthy chapter comprised of 56 verses containing quite a bit of subject matter, I will be breaking this commentary of Luke chapter 8 into 3 parts just to make sure we don’t miss anything, as well as for the sake of brevity. So without any further introductions, let’s begin at verse 1, which reads as follows:

After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him, and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out; Joanna the wife of Cuza, the manager of Herod’s household; Susanna, and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means. While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, he told them this parable: ‘A farmer went out to sow his seed.
