The ongoing debacle with Trump’s tariffs and his disastrous meeting with Ukrainian president Vladimir Zelenskyy has made the US the laughingstock of the entire world. President Trump, with an assist from vice president JD Vance, turned an opportunity for enrichment of ties between the Trump administration and Ukraine, which would have put Russia’s Putin in check, into a conflagration of shortsightedness and arrogance. In so doing, they have played right into the hands of Russian president Vladimir Putin, helping Russia better its position globally at America’s expense. As a result, America’s reputation abroad has been badly damaged, and its position on the world stage has been compromised. It will take four more years, until the 2028 election, to get a new administration into the White House who can begin undoing the damage caused by what Donald Trump has done to the US in the last week.
