Why Bother Continuing A Life of Good Work?
(2 Corinthians 8: 1–12)

This week we will begin chapter 8 of 2nd Corinthians, going through the first 12 verses this week and the remainder the next. Paul the apostle begins this chapter on a positive note, commending them for reaching out to God for his grace to overcome adversity. Through this we will begin to develop into someone who practices gentleness and compassion, freely giving to others who have need, as best they can. As you will see, it is the quality — not the quantity — that counts with God.

“And now, brothers, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches. Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints. And they did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God’s will.
